 RULES: READ FIRST
« Thread Started on May 7, 2008, 9:26pm »

This thread may be modified at any time.

Here are the basic rules:

Be nice to newbies - New users often tend to be annoying; they may insist on asking already answered questions. Instead of flaming them, politely point out their mistakes and direct them to what they're looking for. It'll do wonders to keep the community growing and happy.

Let sleeping dogs lie - Avoid bumping old threads; especially controversial ones. The same old arguments and flaming gets mighty boring.

Ignore spammers - Don't comment on spam, as you will be contributing to the problem by diverting the topic. If you notice spam, either report the post to the moderators via the Report button on the bottom of the post or by a Private Message.

Use quotes effectively - Use the Quote button instead of paraphrasing entire paragraphs. Try to trim any quotes, meaning don't just quote everything, only the parts that are relevant to your response.

When in need of help... - Use the forum's search features and check the help section before asking a new question. If anything else and the question is short, feel free to bring it up in the C-Box.

Use meaningful topic names - Particularly when asking questions or reporting bugs, use a name that directly identifies your thread. E.g., if you were asking a question use "How do you RP?" instead of "Please help!".

Avoid double posting - Use the edit button instead of positing twice in a row! And if you need to quote more than one post, press the Reply button. Then you'll see a Topic Summary below your reply, and for each post in the summary there will be an "Insert quote" link. Click this for each quote you want (remember to trim them).

General forum etiquette - Avoid excessive shouting (using ALL CAPS for your entire post, for example) and pointless bumping/spamming (e.g. your entire post consisting of "LOL") or advertising.

Readability tips - Try to make your post readable by structuring long posts/replies into paragraphs and breaking up long sentences (at least with commas/pauses). Spelling, grammar, and avoiding leet speak is useful too, though not always absolutely necessary, especially for those whose first language isn't English.

On moderators...
Moderators are allowed to have an opinion, but they will distinguish this from moderation (e.g. by using a different color/bold/italic text for mod talk). No one will be warned/banned for questioning moderator actions (if the above guidelines are followed), but they work for free and don't have to do it, so make sure the reasons are valid. If there are ANY issues whatsoever, contact another staff member immediately.

And next, the in-game rules:

In the case of newbies... - Do not gang up on the newer people. If this occurs, the staff may feel like sending the Scilian Empire after you to crush all of your hopes of "winning" this game. A member holds the Newbie status for 10 days after their first planet's profile is accepted. With this said, newbies are only allowed to attack other newbies (if they even have access to interplanetary warfare before ten days are up, which isn't all too likely).

When low on resources... - Do NOT resort to farming new(ish) members' (or old members') planets and colonies to gain the so desired resources. That is, more than three raids of the same planet in a period of seven days or less. The first offense will result in a small, 3-day ban, the second in a 7-day ban, and the third (fourth, fifth, etc.) will get your account deleted.

NO Cheating - Any attempts at cheating (successful or not) will result in immediate 3-day ban. During this period (if you still wish to return), you must come up with a way to explain yourself in one quick paragraph. This must then be submitted to Jesse via Private Message. A second offense results in a 7-day ban and you must submit 2 paragraphs, again explaining the whole situation. A third offense is automatic account deletion. And remember, during any of the banning periods (3- or 7-day), other players may attack any of your controlled planets, even if you still hold Newbie status. However, farming of a planet is illegal and will also result in punishment.

In staff/member disputes... - Always assume the staff member is correct, unless another member (staff or not) is able to vouch for them. Do not attempt to cheat in any way... this infringement has already been explained. If it comes to harassment or violent speech (including threats, in appropriate language, and misconduct), an automatic 7-day ban will be issued. Similar offenses within 2 weeks of the first offense will result in immediate account deletion.

If several rules have been broken... - It is up to the admin to decide the proper course of action based on the severity and number of the infringements. For example; if a player has two accounts of farming and one account of harassment in one week or less, they will most likely be deleted.
